Vegas Over/Under: 42.5
The Record Projection: 40-42 of fromal The Bet: Hammer the beneath The Philadelphia 76ers appear to one day become the best team in the Eastern Conference on course. But let’s not make an air of disappointment by expecting too much.
Vegas, likely capitalizing on the excitement that surrounds all of the future stars, is already doing this. Betting under is one of this year’s simplest sports stakes.
Joel Embiid is not guaranteed to keep healthier. Ben Simmons and markelle Fultz have played at a zero games. The remainder of the roster is laden with upside down, but they’re by no means guaranteed to break and produce strongly positive results in 2017-18.
Lest we forget, the Sixers went 28-54 during the 2016-17 season. Should you bet the over, you are counting on a minimum of a 15-game improvement, and that is quite a lot to ask.
Obviously, disagreements exist to the contrary. Philadelphia had so many turnover issues last year that counting on two newcomer playmakers to lead the charge is not actually a problem. It won 28 games with Embiid only suiting up 31 occasions, and both numbers are most likely to trend up moving forward, especially with more depth surrounding the talented center.
But incremental advancement is still far more likely than a monumental leap from deep in the lottery to over .500.
